Head Coach Joanne Boyle

On the win:
“I’m excited for the team. We came out of the gates a little slow but picked it up in the second half and played a really good second half. It’s nice to come into your own tournament and get a win.”

On Tiffany Suarez:
“She’s done a really good job the last few games. The pace picks up when she comes in and people get easier shots with her. You need that, and there’s a better flow when she’s out there.”

On UVa’s players:
“I think we did a good job on the boards, which has been an emphasis for us. We’re starting to find our lineup. When Tiffany [Suarez] came in she moved the ball better and when Raeshaun [Gaffney] came in she sparked us defensively. When certain combinations were in there we were just better. “

On Coppin State’s Kyra Coleman:
“She’s a great player for them- a slasher, gets on the boards, can finish or get to the free throw line. Tonight she was two-of-six. Tonight she had to pick up the slack a little bit- usually she shoots about twelve times but tonight she shot 18. She was a primary part of the offense tonight.”

Junior Center Sarah Imovbioh

On improved point guard play:
“I feel like our team chemistry is getting better every day. I like it when we have high tempo and push the ball. Playing with Tiffany, she sees the ball really well and has the confidence that if she puts the ball in there then I’ll catch it. I feel like we’re all starting to get on the same page.”

On the run at the end of the first half:
“We knew that we needed to get at it on defense. Coach called a timeout and really told us to pick it up on d. Like it always does, our defense helped our offense and helped set a tone.

Freshman Guard Tiffany Suarez

On her increased role on the team:
“From not playing a lot I realized that I need to work and nothing is just handed to you. My coaches told me what I need to improve in order to be out there and help my team and that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to do- moving the ball and making sure the offense moves.”

On the ongoing season:
“I feel good out there with the team. I feel like we’re really getting things going and moving in the right direction. I feel more and more comfortable each game. Whatever my coaches ask me to do, I try and do it and that’s what’s getting me out there.”
