CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Nick Sulzer (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time in three weeks following his performance this past weekend at the Virginia Duals. Sulzer’s three wins proved key in leading the Cavaliers to their first-ever Virginia Duals team championship in Hampton, Va.

Sulzer won three straight matches in the 165-pound weight class, including an 11-6 decision over fourth-ranked Corey Mock of Chattanooga. The loss was Mock’s first this year.

Sulzer improved his individual record this year to 22-1 and has moved up to second nationally at 165 in the latest InterMat rankings.

Sulzer’s win over Mock on Friday was key in UVa’s 18-13 team win over the Mocs. Sulzer then scored bonus points off of major decisions in both of his Saturday bouts. In the championship match, he defeated Edinboro’s Zach Towers in a 17-4 major decision; the bonus point from that match was critical in UVa’s 20-19 team victory over the 14th-ranked Fighting Scots for the championship.

The championship was Virginia’s first in the 34-year history of the event.

Ranked 13th nationally, Virginia (11-2, 1-0 ACC) is back in action Friday with a 7 p.m. ACC dual at Duke. The Cavaliers then travel to Old Dominion on Sunday for a 3 p.m. match.
