Virginia Places Nine on the VaSID All-State Football Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Nine Virginia football players were named to the 2013 Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) All-State Division I Football team, announced Tuesday by the organization. Five Cavaliers earned first-team honors: Kevin Parks (RB), Jake McGee (TE), Morgan Moses (OL), Eli Harold (DL) and Anthony Harris (S). The second team honorees are: Luke Bowanko (OL), Brent Urban (DL), Henry Coley (LB) and Alec Vozenilek (P).
Sports information directors from throughout the state took part in the voting which, in addition to the top individual awards, named all-state first and second teams on offense and defense.
Parks (Salisbury, N.C.) was the first Cavalier to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season since Alvin Pearman did so in 2004 and his 1,031 rushing yards were the second-most in the ACC. The VaSID honor is the first for the UVa junior.
Harris (Chesterfield, Va.) earned his second VaSID honor after being a second-team honoree in 2012. The junior led the nation with eight interceptions and was named a first-team All-American by SI.com and SB Nation. The Walter Camp All-America team placed Harris on the second team.
Moses (Richmond, Va.) was a first-team VaSID honoree in 2012 and the Rookie of the Year in 2010. The senior graded out over 90 percent in every game and averaged eight knockdowns per contest. Moses yielded only two sacks in 506 pass attempts, which included limiting Clemson’s Vic Beasley (Bednarik and Lombardi Award semifinalists) to one tackle and zero sacks.
McGee (Richmond, Va.) led Virginia with 43 catches and 395 receiving yards. McGee was a first-team VaSID honoree in 2012 too.
Harold (Virginia Beach, Va.) led UVa and was No. 9 in the ACC with 15.0 tackles for a loss. His 15.0 tackles for loss rank No. 6 all-time at UVa for a season. The honor is Harold’s first career VaSID nod.
The second-team honors for Bowanko (Clifton, Va.), Urban (Mississauga, Ontario), Coley (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Vozenilek (Richmond, Va.) are their first career VaSID accolades.
Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke was named the 2013 VaSID Offensive Player of the Year, while James Madison linebacker Stephon Robertson was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. Rookie of the Year recognition went to Old Dominion running back Gerard Johnson and Virginia Tech defensive back Kendall Fuller, while Coach of the Year honors went to William & Mary’s Jimmye Laycock.
