Head Coach Joanne Boyle

On the game overall:
“It’s exciting to get back home and get the win. It’s nice to regroup after last week with all the schedule changes and get back into a routine.”

On defensive effort:
“I wanted some accountability today after the way we played last week. I felt like we did a good job with ball pressure. There are going to be days when our shots aren’t falling. We have to get in the habit of being a better defensive team and a better rebounding team because that’s what’s going to carry us through the game when our offense isn’t there. I know that’s the key. We just need to keep working on it.”

On halting Virginia Tech’s run in the second half:
“We got three stops in a row. They went into a horn set, and we trapped it once or twice. We settled into it. We got them off of their game.”

On Breyana Mason’s performance:
“She has to get over that freshman conditioning and know how to play tired while still staying aggressive. She was fresh and aggressive in the first half. We have to get her to play full games like that.”

On Kay Yow’s legacy:
“Kay laid the foundation and the groundwork for all of us in the sport. She was so passionate about coaches and players. I think that’s what this has served for. It’s a celebration of basketball and bringing people together and ultimately raising awareness for cancer research and is a great legacy of hers.”

Senior Guard Ataira Franklin

On defensive effort:
“Early in the first half, we were more effective [on defense]. They had a lot of unforced turnovers when we applied good ball pressure. We started the game off stronger and get things going quicker than we have in the past.”

On the Virginia-Virginia Tech rivalry:
“This is a game that you get up for and are excited to play. The crowd is amazing and they love when we play Virginia Tech. Everyone has really bought into this rivalry. It’s something you take pride in.”

On Monica Wright’s pre-game message:
“Her biggest message was to play free and have fun. We love playing at home and it’s fun to play in front of the alumni. It was great having her here and supporting us.”

On Play for Kay/wearing pink:
“Everyone loves wearing pink uniforms and stuff, but the cause behind it means so much more. A lot of us know people who have been affected by cancer. It makes you want to play harder. It’s just exciting that it’s acknowledged in college sports.”

Junior Center Sarah Imovbioh

On Virginia’s offensive performance:
“We were poised today. The screens for the guards were working and we were hitting our shots. We had confidence in our offense today.”

On playing against Uju Ugoka of Virginia Tech:
“It took me back to when I was growing up with her back home [in Nigeria]. She’s a great player and I love playing against her because she makes me work and I make her work. It was a great feeling.”
