“Championships are won and lost in the morning preliminaries at both the conference and NCAA level,” UVa head coach Augie Busch said. “We swam extremely well this morning and that set us up for a successful evening. Sophomore Hanne Borgersen (Frederick, Md.) was fourth in a time of 4:40.37, the sixth-fastest time on UVa’s all-time list, while senior Caroline Kenney (Suwanee, Ga.) was sixth in 4:42.11. Juniors Kelly Offutt (Reisterstown, Md.) and Alison Haulsee (Glen Allen, Va.) were seventh and eighth in 4:42.86 and 4:46.38, respectively.

In the 200 IM, freshman Kaitlyn Jones (Newark, Del.) and junior Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) earned All-ACC honors with a second and third-place finish in 1:57.18 and 1:57.24, respectively. Junior Shaun Casey (Port Orange, Fla.) placed fifth in 1:58.23 and sophomore Haley Durmer (Decatur, Ga.) touched sixth in 1:58.67. Sophomore Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) won the consolation final in 1:58.22.

The 200 free relay team of freshmen Shannon Rauth (Glenmoore, Pa.) and Ellen Thomas (Guildford, United Kingdom) and seniors Meredith Cavalier (Stafford, Va.) and Emily Lloyd (Severna Park, Md.) touched third in 1:29.35.

In the 50 free, Thomas won the consolation final in 22.38, the second-fastest mark on UVa’s all-time list. Lloyd was third in 22.54 and Rauth was fourth in 22.55, the fifth and sixth-fastest marks on Virginia’s all-time list.

On women’s 1-meter boards, sophomore Katie Warburg (Wilton, Conn.) placed 18th with 262.05 points.
