CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore Ryan Shane (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Shane helped lead the Cavaliers to a pair of top-10 victories last week.

Shane posted a pair of singles victories last week in Virginia’s 6-1 wins over No. 8 Baylor and No. 6 Notre Dame. In the win over the Bears on Saturday, Shane posted the highest-ranked singles win of his career, downing No. 13 Patrick Pradella 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The following day he moved up to the No. 1 singles spot for the first time in his career, posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 28 Greg Andrews of the Fighting Irish.

Shane is 14-4 overall in singles this season, including a 7-0 dual match record.

The award is the first of Shane’s career and the second for a Cavalier this season. Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was ACC Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 18.

The Cavaliers (9-1, 2-0 ACC), who moved up to No. 2 in this week’s ITA Rankings, will face third-ranked UCLA Thursday in Los Angeles in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament final. Virginia will also play Loyola Marymount Friday on its trip to California.
