CHARLOTTESVILLE – The second-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team will travel west this week for a pair of matches in California. The Cavaliers visit No. 3 UCLA Thursday in a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Tournament final, followed Friday by a match at Loyola Marymount.

The Cavaliers (9-1) will play UCLA (9-1) at noon PT (3 p.m. ET) at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the UCLA campus. On Friday, Virginia will play at Loyola Marymount (4-2) at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET).

Thursday’s match marks the first time Virginia and UCLA have met since last year’s NCAA Tournament final when the Cavaliers edged the Bruins 4-3 to win their first NCAA Championship. It is the first time since 2007 that there has been a regular season rematch of the previous year’s NCAA final (Pepperdine vs. Georgia). The Cavaliers have won the last four meetings in the series (two in the NCAA Tournament and two at ITA National Team Indoors), but the Bruins won the only previous matchup in Los Angeles, 4-3, in 2003 in the first meeting between the schools.

Virginia and Loyola Marymount will meet for the first time on Friday. The Lions’ assistant coach is Virginia alumnus Rylan Rizza (Class of 2006), a 2006 doubles All-American who made three NCAA Doubles Championship and two NCAA Singles Championship appearances for the Cavaliers before competing on the pro tour.

Live stats for both the UCLA and Loyola Marymount matches will be available on VirginiaSports.com.

Following the matches, several Cavaliers will stay in California to compete in next week’s USTA Futures Circuit event in Bakersfield.
