CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team travels to Georgia Tech for a doubleheader on Wednesday (March 12) at 4 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
Both games will be streamed live on ESPN3.com. Live stats will be available and linked through VirginiaSports.com.
Last time out, the Cavaliers (3-16, 1-5 ACC) dropped a three-game series, 2-1, to No. 9 Florida State at The Park. Virginia came from 8-2 down in the first game and went on to win, 11-9, on a walk-off two-run home run by senior Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.).
UVa scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to take their first lead of the game before FSU tied the game in the seventh. It was the Cavaliers’ first win over a top-10 team since defeating No. 2 Arizona, 2-1 in 2010.
The Yellow Jackets come into the doubleheader with a 13-6 record on the season (2-4 ACC) after dropping a three-game series, 2-1, to Notre Dame last weekend. Hayley Downs leads GT with a .396 batting average, while Kylie Kleinschmidt is 9-3 with a 0.98 ERA in 78.2 innings pitched.
Last year, Georgia Tech claimed a three-game series, 2-1, in Charlottesville. The Yellow Jackets were victorious in the first two games, 7-3 and 5-2, before the Cavaliers won the finale, 4-2.
Up next, Virginia starts a nine-game home stand with a three-game series against ACC newcomer Syracuse March 15-16. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, while Sunday’s single game is slate for a noon start.
