Charlottesville, Va. – This weekend the Virginia women’s golf team will make its second appearance at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. This is the 42nd playing of the event that has been won by host Florida 17 times.

The 54-hole tournament runs Friday through Sunday and is held at the University of Florida’s par-70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.

The field for this year’s event includes (Golfstat ranking): Arizona (12), Florida (16), Florida State, Furman, Kent State, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma (4), Old Dominion, Penn State, Texas A&M, USF, UT-San Antonio and Virginia.

Last year Virginia tied for fourth in the 15-team field led by a second-place finish from Portland Rosen.

Virginia’s lineup will include Rosen, Briana Mao, Elizabeth Brightwell, Lauren Diaz-Yi and Lauren Coughlin. The Cavaliers will be paired with Kent State and Miami during Friday’s opening round. Those teams will tee off starting at 9 a.m. from the No. 10 tee.

It is the Cavaliers second tournament during the school’s Spring Break period. UVa placed 13th at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate behind Diaz-Yi’s 26th-place effort.
