No. 3 Cavaliers Play at Virginia Tech Saturday

CHARLOTTESVILLE – No. 3 Virginia travels to No. 58 Virginia Tech for an Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis match on Saturday (March 29). First serve at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center is set for 12 p.m.

The Cavaliers (12-4, 6-1 ACC), who have won three consecutive matches, are 34-5 all-time against the Hokies (10-7, 3-5 ACC). Virginia posted 6-1 and 4-3 victories, respectively, against Virginia Tech last season.

UVa is led by sophomore Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), who is a program-best No. 3 in the ITA singles rankings and No. 9 in doubles with partner Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.). In dual play, Elbaba is 11-2 at No. 1 singles and 7-5 at No. 1 doubles with Pierson.

Reigning two-time ACC Player of the Week Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) is ranked No. 33 after posting four consecutive wins against ranked opponents. Sophomore Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) is ranked No. 45, while Pierson is ranked No. 50.

Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), Li Xi (Kunming, China), Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) provide an impact at the Nos. 5 and 6 singles positions.

In doubles, Nauta and Epstein are ranked No. 67 with their 8-4 dual record.

The Cavaliers, who tied a program best with this week’s No. 3 ranking, defeated then-No. 22 Notre Dame (6-1) and Pittsburgh (7-0) last week.

The Virginia Tech singles lineup features No. 73 Ilinca Stoica and No. 98 Francesca Fusinato.
