Charlottesville, Va. – For the seventh consecutive year the Virginia men’s golf team has received a bid to the NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers were awarded the number No. 2 seed among 14 teams at the regional championship site in Columbia, Mo., at The Club at Old Hawthorne.

Virginia’s seed is the highest in the program’s history.

A total of 81 teams are competing at six regional sites May 15-17 with the top five teams and top individual (not qualifying with a team) advancing to the NCAA Championships set for May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

The regional berth marks the 18th time since 1990 the Cavaliers have competed in postseason play. Virginia is looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the 14th time in its history. Last year the Cavaliers were sixth at a regional site in Columbus, Ohio and did not advance to the NCAA Championships. Denny McCarthy tied for second at the regional to receive an at-large berth to the NCAAs as an individual competitor.

Virginia is one of six ACC schools participating in this year’s championship. The others are: Georgia Tech (Raleigh), Florida State (Raleigh), Wake Forest (Raleigh), Virginia Tech (Auburn) and Clemson (Sugar Grove).
