Cavaliers Sweep Top VaSID Men's Tennis Awards

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team took home all three top awards and had six overall honorees as the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State Men’s Tennis University Division Team was announced Thursday. Senior Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was named state player of the year, first-year Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) was named state rookie of the year and Brian Boland was named state coach of the year.

Domijan was named the state player of the year after a strong senior season that saw him become the first Virginia player to be a four-time ITA Singles All-American. He ended the year with a 26-3 singles record and a No. 9 national ranking. Domijan was the 2014 ACC Player of the Year and earned the ITA/Rafael Osuna National Sportsmanship Award.

Kwiatkowski was named the state rookie of the year after posting a 20-1 singles record during his freshman season. The ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year was also a third-team All-ACC selection this season.

Boland, who has been named state coach of the year every season since the award was established in 2006, led the Cavaliers to a 27-3 record and a NCAA Semifinal appearance this season. Virginia won its eighth consecutive ACC championship and its 11th straight ACC regular season title in 2014.

Domijan was one of three Cavalier singles players named to the All-State first team, along with Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) and Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.). The duo of Domijan and Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) was named to the first team in doubles. Kwiatkowski was named to the second team in singles.
