CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia softball head coach Blake Miller announced Thursday (June 12) that Kaitlin Fitzgerald and McKall Miller are joining the Cavaliers’ program.

Fitzgerald, a 5-9 corner infielder from Placentia, California, and Miller, a 5-8 middle infielder from Ashburn, Virginia, have signed scholarship agreements and are transferring to Virginia from St. Johns and Providence, respectively. Both will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Fitzgerald was named to the All-Big East First Team after hitting .355 with three home runs and 28 RBI for the Red Storm. She started all 51 games, was second on the squad with 11 doubles and third with 54 hits.

Miller led the Friars with seven home runs, 16 RBI, five doubles and a .500 slugging percentage. She started all 35 games, was second on the team with 13 runs scored and third with 24 runs scored.

“Kaitlin and McKall are great additions to our program,” Blake Miller said. “In all aspects of the game these two young women will make an immediate impact. Kaitlin Fitzgerald will make us a lot stronger on the corner and provide a lot of power at the plate. McKall’s addition provides our team with a versatility in depth that we have not had. She is a strong middle infielder with a lot of power at the plate.”

Before St. Johns, Fitzgerald played for Rosary High School where she was recognized as the Trinity League Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2013 and was named to All-Trinity League squads all four years of high school, including the first team her junior and senior years. She was also named Second-Team All-Orange County in 2012.

For Broad Run High School, Miller was named the 2013 AAA Cedar District Player of the Year and was a three-time all-district and two-time all-region selection. She was named to the Washington Post All-Met teams twice.

The Cavaliers now have a group of eight newcomers joining the team for the 2015 season. Allison Davis, Alex Formby, Andie Formby, Lauren Heintzelman, Danni Ingraham and Brittany McNulla all signed National Letters of Intent to join the Cavaliers in the fall.
