Virginia Volleyball Announces 2014 Captains

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Four members of the Virginia volleyball program, seniors Morgan Blair, Tori Janowski and Sydney Shelton and junior Lauren Fuller, have been named captains for the 2014 season, head coach Dennis Hohenshelt announced Wednesday (Aug. 27).
“I am excited for Tori, Morgan, Sydney and Lauren,” Hohenshelt said. “All four have displayed the leadership required to help our team become the best it can be.”
Blair, a 6-1 middle hitter from Long Valley, N.J., started 24 matches last season, was third on the squad with 71 blocks (0.69 blocks per set) and tallied a career-high 87 kills.
Janowski, a 5-10 outside hitter from Sterling, Va., was a 2013 AVCA All-East Coast Region honorable mention and was named to the All-ACC Third Team. She started all 32 matches last year and recorded a career-high 462 kills, the eighth-most in UVa single-season history.
Shelton, a 5-6 defensive specialist from Stockton, Calif., played in 18 matches in 2013, recording 26 digs and four service aces.
Fuller, a 5-10 setter from Manhattan Beach, Calif., was a 2013 AVCA All-East Coast Region honorable mention and was named to the All-ACC Second Team after her first year with the Cavaliers. The setter recorded 1,455 assists, the seventh-most in Cavalier single-season history, and averaged 11.37 assists per set, the second-most in the ACC.
Virginia opens the 2014 campaign with a tournament at Marshall in Huntington, W.Va., Aug 29-30. UVa’s first match of the season is against Illinois-Chicago on Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The Cavaliers’ first home match is Sept. 5 vs. LIU Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
