RICHMOND, Va.-The Virginia volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday (Sept. 20) at the VCU Invitational. The Cavaliers (7-5) defeated East Tennessee State, 3-1, before falling to tournament-host VCU, 3-2.

In the first match of the day, the Cavaliers hit .345 as a team on its way to a 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 win over East Tennessee State (4-10).

Senior Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.), who was named to the all-tournament team, recorded a double-double with a match-high 20 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Haley Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) hit .317 with 17 kills.

Senior Morgan Blair (Long Valley, N.J.) hit .583 with seven kills and six blocks and junior Lauren Fuller (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) dished out 53 assists.

Ivey Rice recorded 15 kills with 11 digs to lead ETSU.

In the second match, the Cavaliers fought back from a 2-0 deficit, but were unable to finish the comeback, falling to VCU, 25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 24-26 and 19-17.

In the decisive fifth set, the Rams (5-7) hit .480 with 12 kills and no errors, while the Cavaliers hit .258 with 12 kills and four errors. UVa fought off four match points before VCU won the match on a kill by Janelle Sykes, who had 20 kills.

Janowski again led Virginia, recording a match-high 24 kills and 19 digs along with seven blocks. Blair had a career-high nine blocks, while sophomore Karlie Suber (Mechanicsville, Va.) added a career-high 18 digs.

Next up, the Cavaliers travel to Lynchburg, Virginia, on Tuesday (Sept. 23) to face Liberty at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
