Virginia junior rower Sam Casto (Dallas, Pa.) has been named a nominee for USRowing Fan’s Choice Collegiate Rower of the Year, USRowing announced Thursday (Oct. 4). The voting runs through Oct. 20 and fans can vote here.

Casto was part of the Virginia Second Varsity Eight that placed third at the 2014 NCAA Championships, the first time UVa’s 2V8 had medaled since 2005. She also a part of the ACC Champion 2V8, just a few months after transferring to Virginia from Georgia Tech.

Over the summer, Casto won the single at the USRowing Under-23 World Championship Trials in West Windsor, N.J., in June to qualify for the U.S. World Under-23 Championship squad. At the World U23 regatta, Casto finished fourth in the B final of the women’s single to place 10th overall.

Virginia’s Kristine O’Brien (’13) was named the 2012 recipient of the award.
