Elbaba Shines on Final Day at UVa Fall Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia junior Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) shined on the final day of the UVa Fall Invite on Sunday (Oct. 12) at Boar’s Head Sports Club.

Elbaba rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 win over teammate Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) to win the Orange singles flight. Elbaba also won the Orange doubles flight with teammate Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) in a walkover against teammates Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) and Nauta. In other Orange flight singles consolation action, Morton was defeated 7-6, 6-3 by Borislava Botusharova.

Sophomore Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) and freshman Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) suffered an 8-7(4) loss to Marshall’s Anna Pomyatinskaya and Derya Turhan in the Blue doubles final. Faure added a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Arkansas’ Nastassia Rubel in Blue singles consolation play.

The Cavaliers return to action at the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional on Oct. 17-21 in Blacksburg, Va.
