CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team will host the 2014 ITA Atlantic Regional at the Snyder Tennis Center. The tournament will begin Thursday (Oct. 16) with qualifying and will conclude with the singles and doubles finals on Tuesday (Oct. 21).

Admission to the tournament is free at the Snyder Tennis Center. In case of inclement weather, play will be moved indoors to the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The tournament begins with two rounds of qualifying on Thursday. Main draw play begins Friday and will run through Tuesday. The singles and doubles champions will earn a spot at next month’s ITA National Indoor Championships at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.

The Cavaliers will have six players competing in the tournament, including three of the top seven seeds. Junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) is the No. 2 seed, junior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) is the No. 6 seed and sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) is the No. 7 seed. Sophomore Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) is a No. 9-16 seed and first-year Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) is a No. 17-32 seed, while junior Jonathan Cornish (London, England) is unseeded. Cornish will begin play in the first round of singles on Friday, while the seeded players will open play Saturday after receiving a first round bye.

In doubles, all three Cavalier teams are seeded. Styslinger and Wiersholm are the No. 3 seed, Shane and Corinteli are the No. 5 seed and Kwiatkowski and Cornish are a No. 9-16 seed.
