UVa Golfers Look to End Fall Play on High Note at US Collegiate

Charlottesville, Va. – The 26th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team wraps up its fall season this weekend at the ninth annual United States Collegiate Championship at the 7,017-yard, par 72 Lakeside Course at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta. The 54-hole event begins at 9 a.m. Friday and continues with round two Saturday morning and concludes with the final round Sunday.
Considered one of the most competitive tournaments on the collegiate schedule, the 15-team field includes 11 teams ranked in the top-30 of the current Golfweek standings. The Cavaliers will be joined in the USCC field by Auburn (8), Clemson (30), East Tennessee State (25), Georgia Tech (13), Iowa, Kent State, LSU (7), Oklahoma State, Stanford (4), Texas (17), Texas A&M, UCLA (3), Wake Forest (9) and Washington (23).
Virginia’s lineup will include Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.), Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.), Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.). McCarthy leads the team with a 70.75 stroke average and is coming off a runner-up finish at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
