Oct. 21, 2014 Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia sophomore golfer Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) has been named the Player of the Week by Golfweek. Bard took medalist honors last weekend at the U.S. Collegiate Championships held at The Golf Club of Atlanta.

Bard finished at 15-under 201, the third best tournament score in UVa history. He had rounds of 66, 71 and 64 on the par-72 course.

His final round effort matched his low 18-hole total as a collegiate and his tournament total was a new personal best. The win was the first in Bard’s career and his sixth top-10 finish in 14 career tournaments. His previous best outing was a runner-up effort at the Palmetto Intercollegiate last spring. Bard recorded just two bogeys during his 54 holes of play.

Bard’s performance helped the 25th-ranked Cavaliers to a runner-up finish in the 15-team field that marked UVa’s final event of the fall season.

Following his performance, Bard improved to 39th in the latest Golfweek individual rankings. He is the eighth highest ranked player from the ACC in the standings.
