Oct. 26, 2014 Wilmington, N.C. – The 18th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team finished fifth at the 18-team Landfall Tradition tournament in Wilmington, N.C. It was UVa’s final event of the fall season. The Cavaliers shot 6-over 294 during the final round for a three-day total of 8-over 872. Wake Forest won the tournament at even par 864 while Alabama was second at 868 and Notre Dame and South Carolina tied for third, one shot ahead of Virginia.

Junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) led the Cavaliers with a fourth-place finish at 3-under 213. She posted a final round score of 1-under 71 to help her record her first top-10 performance at Virginia. A transfer from Northwestern, it was the best finish she has had as a collegiate competitor.

UVa sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) dropped back to 14th place at 1-over 217. She shot 75 during Sunday’s play. Senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) was 24th at 220, junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) was 55th at 225 and freshman Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) was 61st at 226. Mao led that group with a 72 on Sunday while Coughlin and Anderson both carded final rounds of 76.

Freshman Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio), competing as a non-scoring individual, was 74th at 230. She shot 77 on Sunday.

UCF’s Ashley Holder held on for a one-shot victory to claim medalist honors. She finished at 7-under 209, one shot ahead of South Carolina’s Nanna Madsen.

A total of 11 of the 18 teams that competed in the Landfall Tradition are ranked in the top-25 of the current Golfstat poll.
