CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia senior center Sarah Imovbioh has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Imovbioh led the Cavaliers to a pair of wins last weekend, including a season-opening win over Ohio State, 87-82, on Friday, Nov. 14. The senior from Abuja, Nigeria, set the Virginia single-game rebounding record with 24 boards against the Buckeyes, and accounted for almost half of Virginia’s 51 total rebounds in the game. Against Radford, Imovbioh only played 20 minutes, but still nearly had another double-double with 14 points and 9 boards. Imovbioh averaged 16 points and 16.5 rebounds in UVa’s two wins.

Imovbioh is the first Cavalier to earn this honor since Chelsea Shine was named the ACC Player of the Week on Nov. 21, 2011 after Virginia upset No. 3 Tennessee, 69-64, in overtime.

Virginia will play its first road contest of the season on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m., facing Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio, before returning home to host Auburn on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.
