In the coming weeks, we will highlight members of the recruiting class who have signed NLI’s to join Virginia is 2015.

Bailey Fanikos, a two-time 2014 Cape Ann League Player of the year, is a center midfielder from Lynnfield, Mass. Fanikos finished her career at Lynnfield High as the school-record holder in points (122) and goals (81) after leading the state of Massachusetts in goals (39) her junior season. The two-time Cape Ann League First-Team All-Star has also been named to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team.

Fanikos also played three seasons of varsity lacrosse, being named a league all-star last season, and was a swimmer and diver, earning all-league honors in both last season, as well as being part of a 200m medley relay that set the LHS record.

“We are excited to welcome Bailey into the Virginia field hockey family,” said Cavaliers’ head coach Michele Madison. “Bailey has a sixth gear that will amp up the already explosive Virginia attack. She is a gifted striker with a powerful backhand as well as a powerful forehand shot.”

Fanikos also played for the Boston Field Hockey Club, playing for Nate Coolidge, a former USA Men’s National Team member, and helped lead her squad to finishing as the 2014 Northeast Regional Club champions.

“Bailey can flat out play,” Coolidge said. “She is big. She is physical. She is fast and coachable. Her best years are yet to come.”
