MELBOURNE, Australia – Virginia men’s tennis alumnus Jarmere Jenkins (Class of 2013) has reached the final round of qualifying at the 2015 Australian Open as he makes his debut at the first Grand Slam of the year.

Jenkins, unseeeded in qualifying, downed No. 23 Rajeev Ram in the first round, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, before downing Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 7-6(3) in the second round. He meets former Auburn standout Tim Puetz in the final round on Friday for a place in the main draw. Puetz upset top-seeded Damir Dzumhur in the second round.

With a victory, Jenkins will make his singles main draw debut at a Grand Slam event. He is looking to join two other Cavaliers in the main draw of this year’s Australian Open. Treat Huey (Class of 2008) and Dominic Inglot (Class of 2009) will both compete in the main draw of doubles.
