CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 11 Virginia men’s tennis team will continue its road trip Sunday with a visit to No. 5 Baylor. Match time at the Hurd Tennis Center, home to this year’s NCAA Championships, is 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) and live scoring and video will be available at VirginiaSports.com
The Cavaliers (7-1) look to avenge their only loss of the season, a 4-3 defeat to Baylor in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago on Feb. 14. Virginia has won its last two matches in Waco, defeating the Bears 6-1 in 2011 and 2013.
The Bears (8-2) are coming off shutout victories over Purdue and UCLA last week in Waco. Baylor reached the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships earlier this month.
Four Cavaliers are ranked in the latest singles rankings, including the top two players in sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) at No. 1, and junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) at No. 2. It marks the second time in school history Virginia has had the nation’s top two players as Sanam Singh and Michael Shabaz were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 on March 2, 2010. Senior Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) is No. 59 and junior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) at No. 91 to round out the Cavaliers in the singles rankings.
Next week the Cavaliers will open ACC play with a pair of road matches. The Cavaliers visit No. 12 Wake Forest on March 6 and No. 27 NC State on Mar. 7.
