NOTRE DAME, Ind. – No. 5 Virginia defeated No. 26 Notre Dame 6-1 in ACC women’s tennis action on Sunday (March 1) at Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The Cavaliers (9-2, 3-0 ACC) recorded six singles wins against the Fighting Irish (7-4, 3-1 ACC) to earn their fourth consecutive win.

Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.), Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.), Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) each recorded singles wins for the Cavaliers.

The Fighting Irish claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 1. Allison Miller and Julie Vrabel upset No. 23 Mercerand Morton on court two. Elbaba and Epstein beat Mary Closs and Jane Fennelly 8-3 on court three, but No. 21 Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson claimed the double point for Notre Dame with an 8-5 win over Collins and Nauta on court one.

Virginia swept all six singles matches as No. 1 Elbaba topped Robinson 6-2, 6-2 on court two and No. 27 Nauta beat Vrabel 6-3, 6-4 on court three. Mercer gave Virginia a 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Fennelly on court six and Morton clinched the win with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Closs on court four. Collins added a win over Gleason on court one and Epstein defeated Miller in three sets on court five.
