CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia junior attackman James Pannell and sophomore goalie Matt Barrett have earned Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. Pannell was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Barrett was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week. It was the second career honors for both players who each won the same accolade during the 2014 season.

Pannell (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallied a season-high six goals and seven points to help lift Virginia past No. 8 Cornell, 15-14. Pannell scored three goals in the midst of a 6-1 UVa run that spanned the first, second and third quarters and which turned a 4-3 Virginia deficit into a 9-5 lead. He also scored two fourth quarter goals that brought UVa’s lead to 14-8.

Barrett (Glenmoore, Pa.) recorded a career-high 21 saves after facing 58 shots from the Big Red. He posted nine saves in the second quarter alone when UVa held Cornell scoreless. During the second period, UVa played a man-down for three minutes and Barrett posted five saves during that stretch. Barrett also picked up five ground balls.

Virginia returns to action tomorrow when Saint Joseph’s comes to Charlottesville. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.
