BUFFALO, N.Y.–The Virginia diving corps concluded action at the NCAA Zone A Championships Wednesday (March 11) in Buffalo, N.Y.

“We had outstanding performances all around today,” UVa head coach Jason Glorius said. “Everyone dove really well and we set a lot of personal bests.”

Junior Becca Corbett (Louisville, Ky.) placed fourth in women’s platform diving with a total score of 515.55. She posted a score of 265.70 in the prelims, a new school record. Corbett has now qualified for all three boards at the NCAA Championships, to be held in Greensboro, N.C., March 19-21.

Freshman Corey Johnson (Ambler, Pa.) finished ninth with a score of 441.15, while fellow freshman Emily Langworthy (Gaithersburg, Md.) placed 10th with 427.70 points. Johnson’s finals score of 228.75 ranks fifth on UVa’s all-time list.

In men’s platform diving, junior Carl Buergler (Arlington, Va.) finished eighth with a mark of 635.90, while senior JB Kolod (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was ninth with 631.50 points. Buergler’s prelim finals score of 353.70 ranks third on UVa’s all-time list. Juniors Jordan Sacks (Wilmette, Ill.) and Colby Shinholser (Burtonsville, Md.) placed 11th (607.50) and 13th (590.55), respectively. Shinholser’s prelim score of 320.05 and Sacks’ finals score of 313.35 rank fifth and sixth on UVa’s all-time list.

By way of his second-place finishes on 1-meter and 3-meter and placing in the top 12 on platform, Kolod is eligible to compete in all three events at the men’s national meet in Iowa City, Iowa, March 26-28.
