CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two individuals and one relay team of the Virginia men’s track and field team will compete this week at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will be held Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) will compete in the weight throw and men’s distance relay will be in action on Friday. Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) will compete in the shot put on Saturday.
Young, the ACC champion in the weight throw, makes his second straight NCAA appearance in the event, having finished 14th in 2014 while at the University of Arizona. He is seeded fifth as he threw a school-record 22.92m at the ACC meet. The weight throw will begin at 7 p.m. CT on Friday.
Virginia sends the DMR to the NCAA Championships for the second time in the past three years. The Cavaliers, who won the ACC Championship in the event last week, are seeded 11th for the NCAA meet with a season-best time of 9:32.36. Running for Virginia will be four of these five athletes: Payton Hazzard (Huntington, N.Y.), Nathan Kiley (Chantilly, Va.), Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.), Mike Marsella (Hope Valley, R.I.) and Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.). The DMR will conclude Friday’s action, beginning at 9:20 p.m. CT.
Mihaljevic, the ACC champion in the shot put, will make his NCAA Indoor Championship debut. He is seeded ninth in the event as his season-best 19.63m is a school record. The shot put will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday.
There will be online coverage of the meet on ESPN3 and live results will be available on flashresults.com.
The Cavaliers begin the outdoor season next week when they host the Virginia Cup at Lannigan Field on March 21.
