CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The Virginia softball team travels to Louisville, Ky., this weekend when they face off against ACC newcomer Louisville this weekend (March 14-15). Saturday’s doubleheader has been moved to 4 p.m. because of inclement weather in the Louisville forecast, while Sunday’s single game is set for a noon start.

The Cavaliers (5-18, 1-5 ACC) split a doubleheader at George Mason on Wednesday (March 11). Virginia won the first game, 10-9 in 11 innings, but the Patriots claimed the second game, 8-7. Sophomore Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) hit two home runs on the day, while freshman Brittany McNulla (Litchfield, N.H.) had four hits between the two games. UVa now has 25 home runs this season, one more than all of last season.

Sophomore Kaitlin Fitzgerald (Placentia, Calif.) leads the team with a .375 batting average and 21 RBI, while senior Megan Harris (Knoxville, Tenn.) is hitting .351.

Louisville (10-7, 3-0 ACC) went 2-2 at the Louisville Softball Classic last weekend, defeating Illinois State, 10-2, and Ball State, 8-0, but falling to Northwestern, 11-0, and Illinois State, 4-3. Jordan McNary leads the Cardinals with a .471 batting average, while Maryssa Becker is hitting .438 with four home runs. Shelby McCombs is 4-2 with a 2.20 ERA, while Becker is 3-1 with a 2.87 ERA.

The Cardinals lead the all-time series 3-2 and claimed the last meeting, 2-1, on Feb. 17, 2012.

Virginia returns to action March 18 when they travel to James Madison for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. The games were originally scheduled for March 4, but inclement weather postponed the doubleheader.
