HARRISONBURG, Va.–The Virginia softball team dropped a doubleheader at James Madison, 9-1 and 10-2, Wednesday (March 18) at Veterans Memorial Park. The Cavaliers fell to 5-23 on the season, while the Dukes improved to 19-6.

In the first game, the Cavaliers’ lone run came in the first inning when sophomore Kaitlin Fitzgerald (Placentia, Calif.) singled to score freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.).

Megan Good went 3-for-4 for JMU with a home run and three RBI, while throwing 5.0 innings with a run allowed for the win to move to 10-0 on the season. JMU scored their ninth run in the fifth inning with one out to end the game.

Freshman Andie Formby (Orange, Calif.) gave up nine runs in 4.1 innings in the loss (4-12).

In the second game, the Cavaliers scored two runs in the fifth inning, but JMU won 10-2 in five innings.

Virginia scored its two runs when senior Megan Harris (Knoxville, Tenn.) singled to score sophomore Madison Labshere (El Cajon, Calif.) and later scored on a Davis double.

Erica Field led JMU with five RBI, while Jessica Mrozek homered in the fifth to conclude the game.

Jailyn Ford (7-4) earned the win, throwing four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, while freshman Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) allowed 10 runs in four innings in the loss (1-8).

Next up, the Cavaliers host Delaware State and Marist in a round-robin tournament at The Park March 20-22. Admission is free of charge.
