Wahoo Central Moderator: Hello everyone. Thanks for joining us here in the Wahoo Central chat room. |
Wahoo Central Moderator: Thanks for your questions and feel free to submit more. And here we go… |
Vienna: when you past your defender and going to the goal, do you look at where your shooting or eye somewhere else |
Courtney Swan: When I get past my defender, I always look at the goal before shooting. I know some attackers look away to deceive the goalie. As long as the shot is placed well, the goalie doesn’t have a chance of saving it. |
Ashburn: Hello! Thank you for your time to be here today. I want to ask if your plan your dodges or if you react off from the defender. Thank you! |
Courtney Swan: I have a few dodges that I really like and use often. |
Courtney Swan: I like the right to left split and the right-to-right face-dodge. |
Courtney Swan: I try to set up my move to relation to where the open space is and where the rest of my teammates are more so than reacting to the defender. |
Jacksonville: what is your techniques to ground balls |
Courtney Swan: On ground balls, the best strategy is to try get your body as low as possible. |
Courtney Swan: Also, it is important to try to get your stick parallel to the ground. |
Courtney Swan: Lastly, getting a ground ball with your entire body is the most important thing you can do rather than trying to pick it up solely with your stick. |
Casey: What do you know now as a senior that you wish you knew as a freshman? Any particular tips for the young players on the team/words of wisdom? |
Courtney Swan: I wish I knew as a freshman simply that I would be able to handle being a good student-athlete, balancing school, lacrosse, and a social life. |
Courtney Swan: At times, it can get extremely stressful and overwhelming, but now as a fourth-year, I have realized that it is possible and can be fun! |
Courtney Swan: Some tips are to keep working hard and play with confidence no matter what year you are. |
Vicky: How pumped are you to be hosting the ACC Tournament this year? Does that give you an edge to know that you’ll be playing in the friendly confines of Klockner? |
Courtney Swan: I am SOOOOOO excited that UVa is hosting the ACC Tournament this year. |
Courtney Swan: Our team is really excited to be able to play on Klockner again, which we think will give us an advantage over other ACC teams. |
Courtney Swan: Klockner is one of the bigger fields in college lacrosse, so it is always an advantage for us since we are familiar with it. |
Laurel: I know you are so busy during the season. What is an ideal day off for you, what does it consist of? Good luck the rest of the season, we are pulling for you! |
Courtney Swan: An ideal day off consists of a good meal at one of the local Charlottesville restaurants. |
Courtney Swan: Some of my favorites include La Taza and Feast but really anywhere I can sit outside and enjoy the weather. |
Courtney Swan: And ideal day off would also be to rest my legs and catch up on school work and watching episodes of Scandal. |
Ashburb: How long have u been laxing |
Courtney Swan: I started playing lacrosse when I was in sixth grade. My sister who was in high school at the time was the one who introduced me to the sport when she joined the varsity team. |
Jenny: Which sports do you find yourself supporting the most when you have some free time away from women’s lax?? |
Courtney Swan: I would say supported the men’s basketball team a lot this winter. |
Courtney Swan: JPJ Arena is great and a really fun place to watch a game. |
Megan Dunleavy (Arlington, VA): WHAT is your favorite pump up song!!! What gets you GOING!!? |
Courtney Swan: I don’t have a particular favorite pump-up song. I like anything that is upbeat and I can dance to for game day. |
Andy S. Vero Beach: As always…so proud of you and your endeavors. What words of wisdom can you give to this year’s group at VBHS for their quest for 10 which starts this week? |
Courtney Swan: Just keep working hard and do not be satisfied with anything less than what you have been working for, which is another state championship. |
Courtney Swan: And also, always remember to enjoy the journey and not just the end result. |
Courtney Swan: I still have extremely fond memories of all of my four years at Vero and playing with the girls on the team. |
Courtney Swan: To this day, I am still so proud of what we accomplished at Vero. And I am excited to continue following the program and the success I know you are going to have. |
Frank from Ssummit NJ: What’s your favorite UVA tradition and why ? |
Courtney Swan: My favorite UVa tradition is one that I haven’t yet experienced but am looking forward to in a month. |
Courtney Swan: I have really enjoyed my experience here, but I am really looking forward to walking the lawn. But I am really going to miss UVa. |
Elsa from Arendelle: Being from Florida how do you deal with the cold weather practices and games? |
Courtney Swan: I definitely don’t enjoy cold weather practices or games. |
Courtney Swan: After four years, I have learned how to layer and manage the cold a little bit better. |
Courtney Swan: I’ve also found different pieces of cold gear to wear when it was snowing. I have this facemask where only my eyes show that I wear when it is really bad. I was the scariest-looking person on the field, but I was also the warmest. |
Bryce, Virginia Beach: Do you like Froyo? |
Courtney Swan: It is actually my night-before-a-game ritual which always brings me good luck. |
Courtney Swan: And speaking of Bryce, I would like to thank him for the gift certificate for Arches that you gave me. It was gone within two weeks. Thank you for keeping me happy with my favorite food and for always supporting me career at UVa. |
Courtney Swan: I would also like thank my parents for doing whatever they can to come watch me play. |
Courtney Swan: You guys have been my two biggest fans and supporters from the beginning and I couldn’t ask for anything more! |
Courtney Swan: The atmosphere you have created at Klockner is unlike anything else in the ACC. Your support means so much to all of us!!! |
Wahoo Central Moderator: Great! That will wrap things up here. |
Wahoo Central Moderator: Thanks, Courtney, for joining us and thank you everyone who submitted questions. |
