Bradenton, Fla. – The 10th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team was in 17th place when the second round of the NCAA Championships was suspended due to weather at 7:25 p.m. The round will be completed Sunday morning.

The Cavaliers stood at 23-over during their round with players having completed holes 13 through 15 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. At the time of the suspension, freshman Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) was leading the team with a 3-over score through 15 holes. Her round included three birdies and she managed an eagle on the par-4, 322-yard eighth hole.

UVa’s tournament total was 44-over par when play stopped. The Cavaliers shot 21-over 309 during the event’s opening round.

Junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) scorecard was at 4-over through 14 holes, junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) was 5-over after 13 holes and both senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) and sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) had posted rounds of 11-over with several holes left to play.

Top-ranked USC was leading the field at 14-over but was competing in the afternoon wave and did not finish its round. Among the teams that completed 36 holes of play, 18th-ranked Baylor was the leader in the clubhouse at 28-over 604. Purdue and UC Davis were next at 33-over 609.

Duke, which tied with Stanford for the first round lead at 5-over 293, had dropped back to second place at 23-over when the Blue Devils’ round was suspended. Stanford, which played in the morning wave, fell back to a tie for 11th at 40-over 616.

Following Sundays’ third round, the 24-team tournament field will be cut to 15 teams. Those schools, along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team, will compete in a fourth round of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for the match play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual NCAA champion. The fourth round of stroke play is scheduled for Monday.

The top eight teams after 72 holes of stroke play will be placed into a bracket for the match play portion of the tournament, which takes place Tuesday (quarterfinals and semifinals) and Wednesday (finals).

Virginia is making its eighth appearance at the NCAA Championships in the program’s 12-year history. The Cavaliers finished fifth at the NCAA Regional in St. George, Utah after winning the program’s first ACC title earlier this season.
