CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams will have 25 athletes compete this week at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. The meet will be held May 28-30 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and live results will be available on VirginiaSports.com.

Each individual event (excluding the heptathlon and decathlon) will have 48 competitors, while relays will have 24 teams. The top 12 from every event will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.

Virginia will have 15 men and 10 women competing in 19 events at the preliminary meet. Thirteen of the 25 athletes have competed in a NCAA preliminary meet previously in their career, while 12 Cavaliers will be making their debut at the event.

The Cavalier men have seven athletes seeded in the top 12 of their respective events, highlighted by Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario), who is a top-10 seed in three events. The 2015 ACC Championship Field Performer of the Year is seeded fifth in the hammer throw and ninth in both the shot put and discus. Filip Mihlajevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina), the ACC champion in the discus and shot put, is seeded second and sixth in those events, respectively.

Virginia has two of the top six seeds in the men’s 1500m, with Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) fifth and Mike Marsella (Hope Valley, R.I.) sixth. Payton Hazzard (Huntington, N.Y.), the ACC Indoor Champion in the 400m, is seeded ninth in that event.

Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.), who advanced from the preliminary rounds to Eugene in the 3000m steeplechase last year, is seeded 10th in the event this year and is joined by Adam Visokay (Ruckersville, Va.) in this year’s field. Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.) is seeded ninth in the 10000m and is joined in that event by Chase Weaverling (Darnestown, Md.).

Two athletes who advanced out of the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds look to accomplish the feat again this season. Ryan Satchell (Central Islip, N.Y.) will compete in the men’s triple jump and Kyle Smith (Leola, Pa.) will compete in the men’s javelin.

Nathan Kiley (Chantilly, Va.) will also compete in Jacksonville in the men’s 800m, as will the Cavaliers men’s 4x400m relay.

The Cavalier women have three athletes seeded in the top 12 of an event. Iona Lake (Norwich, England), the ACC Champion in the 3000m steeplechase, is seeded eighth in that event. She is joined in the steeplechase by Sara Sargent (Philadelphia, Pa.). Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) is seeded 11th in the women’s shot put and Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.) is seeded 12th in the women’s 400m.

Also competing on the track for the Cavaliers are Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) in the women’s 200m, Sarah Fakler (Phoenix, Ariz.) in the women’s 10000m and Virginia’s 4x100m relay team. School-record holder Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) will compete in the women’s pole vault and Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.) will compete in the women’s javelin.
