CHARLOTTESVILLE – Six members of the Virginia men’s and women’s track and field programs will compete this summer in national and international championship meets around the world. The group includes three athletes competing this week at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Three athletes who recently completed their freshman seasons for Virginia will be in action June 26-28 at the University of Oregon, looking for a place on the United States Pan American Junior Team that will compete later this summer in Edmonton, Alberta. Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio), who set the UVa freshman record in the decathlon, will compete in that event Thursday and Friday. School record holder Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) will compete in the women’s pole vault on Saturday. Chase Weaverling (Darnestown, Md.) will run in the men’s 10000m on Saturday.

Last week, graduate student Iona Lake (Norwich, England) won the 3000m steeplechase at the England Athletics U23 Championship. She has been placed in the selection pool to represent Great Britain at the European U23 Championships next month in Estonia.

Rising junior Filip Mihlajevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) has already been selected to compete at the European U23 Championships. The school record holder in the shot put and discus, he will represent his home nation of Croatia in those events at the meet.

Sprinter Payton Hazzard (Huntington, N.Y.), who recently concluded his collegiate career at Virginia, will represent Grenada in track events at next month’s Pan American Games in Toronto, Ontario.
