Elbaba Falls At American Collegiate Invitational

QUEENS, N.Y. – Senior Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) of the Virginia women’s tennis team was unable to put together a rally in a rain suspended match at the American Collegiate Invitational, falling to Julia Jones 7-5, 6-3 on Friday as play resumed.

Trailing 3-2 in the second set on Thursday afternoon, play was suspended due to inclement weather as all matches at the US Open and associated events were halted. Elbaba managed to pick up a third game in the set, but was unable to complete a rally as she fell to the recently graduated Jones.

All matches of the American Collegiate Invitational are being played on the grounds of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center alongside the US Open.

Elbaba will return to action next week when she competes along with fellow Cavalier Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) at the Oracle/ITA Masters Tournament.
