Franklin, Tenn. – Virginia senior women’s golfer Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) set the school 54-hole scoring record at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship. Coughlin shot 11-under 205 to place second, the best finish in her career. She was one shot behind tournament medalist Lakareber Abe of Alabama.

Coughlin’s mark was one shot better than the 10-under 206 Briana Mao posted at last year’s ACC Championships. Coughlin’s previous best tourney score was a 6-under 210 that she also carded at the 2015 ACC Championships. She was fourth at that event, her previous best tournament finish.

Thanks to her runner-up performance, Coughlin helped Virginia to a fourth-place finish at the 17-team event. The Cavaliers shot 10-over 298 on Sunday to finish at 9-over 873. Alabama won the tournament at 16-under 848, one shot ahead of Northwestern.

UVa’s Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) was UVa’s next highest finisher, shooting 3-over 219 to take 28th place. Senior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) was 31st at 220, while freshman Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) placed 71st at 230 and co-first year Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) was 76th at 233. Freshman Katharine Patrick, playing as an individual competitor, was 36th overall at 221.

Virginia returns to action Oct. 9 when the Cavaliers play at the Tar Heel Invitational.
