Virginia Men's Tennis Announces its 2016 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s tennis team announced its 2016 spring schedule on Tuesday (Sept. 22). The reigning NCAA champion Cavaliers will play at least 11 home matches this season at the Snyder Tennis Center and the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club as well as hosting the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Virginia’s schedule includes 14 matches against 2015 NCAA tournament teams including facing national runner-up Oklahoma in Tulsa, Okla., on March 12 and hosting UCLA on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
The Cavaliers will host the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, a tournament the Cavaliers have won five of the last eight years, at the Boar’s Head Sports Club from Feb. 12-15. The event features 16 teams: the 15 schools who won both of their matches during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend and the host school. The tournament is held over four days, and begins on Friday with first round play, followed by quarterfinals on Saturday, semifinals on Sunday and the championship match on Monday. Last year’s field included the nation’s top 11 teams and five others ranked in the top-25.
The home dual match schedule begins on Sunday, Jan. 31, featuring matches against Kentucky at noon and Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. The regular-season home slate runs through Sunday, April 17 when the Cavaliers host Miami.
Virginia has won 139 consecutive matches (regular season and tournament) against conference foes, the longest streak in ACC history in any sport. The ACC championships will be held in Cary, N.C., running from April 20-24. The Cavaliers have won nine consecutive ACC titles and 11 overall.
Admission for all home Virginia tennis matches is free.
