Charlottesville, Va. – The 12th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team heads south this weekend to participate in North Carolina’s Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The three-day tournament will run Friday through Sunday at the University’s par-72, 6,379-yard Finley Golf Course.

A total of 13 teams in the 18-team field are ranked in the latest Golfweek top-50 rankings. The Tar Heels will also host NC State (39), Wake Forest (40), Virginia (12), Rollins, Tennessee (16), UNC-Wilmington, Oregon (33), Alabama (2), Kentucky, LSU (25), Baylor (43), Louisville (27), Michigan State, Auburn (38), South Carolina (32) and Arkansas (4). Duke (7) returns as the tournament’s defending champion.

Virginia was sixth at last year’s Tar Heel Invitational as Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), took medalist honors at 7-under 209. At the time, that stood as the school’s 54-hole scoring record.

Virginia’s lineup for this year’s tournament features Diaz-Yi, senior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.), senior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.), sophomore Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) and freshman Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.).

Coughlin is ranked No. 10 in the latest Golfweek standings and leads the Cavaliers with a 70.50 stroke average.
