Two Cavaliers Qualify for the Houston Futures Tournament

HOUSTON, Texas – Sophomores Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) and Alexander Ritschard (Zurich, Switzerland) both advanced out of qualifying and will be playing in the main draw of the Texas Tamale Company Houston Cup Futures tournament at Rice University in Houston, Texas, being held Oct. 13-18.

Wiersholm downed Pedro Pablo Ruiz Naranjo 6-0, 6-0 in his opening round match and then logged a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the second round over Andrew Garman before closing out qualifying with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Duarte Vale.

Ritschard followed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Denis Nguyen in his first round match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Liam Caruana on Sunday. In Monday’s final qualifying round, Ritschard logged a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Patrick Daciek.

Eight players in the field of 64 advanced out of qualifying into the 32-player main draw. Senior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Collin Altamirano (Sacramento, Calif.) will also be playing in the main draw with Ritschard and Altamirano slated to face one another in an opening round match.
