CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 12 Virginia men’s soccer team plays host to ACC rival Pitt at 8 p.m. Friday at Klöckner Stadium. Please note the game time change from the original schedule.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors and faculty/staff. Group ticket orders of 20 or more tickets are $4 (available in advance). Free parking is available in the University Hall and John Paul Jones Arena lots.

Virginia-Pitt Series
Virginia is 4-0 all-time against Pitt, including a 2-0 mark since the Panthers entered the ACC. UVA downed the Panthers 3-0 last season in the Cavaliers’ first-ever visit to Pittsburgh. The Cavaliers have outscored Pitt 13-0 in their previous meetings.

Cavaliers Battle Tested in Close Matches
Virginia knows a thing or two about close matches. Every match has been tied or within one goal at intermission. All 12 UVa matches have been determined by two goals or a draw — with just two by two goals. UVA has been up two goals in three matches (68:56 total) and trailed by two goals in two games (36:15 total).

Last Year vs. Pitt
Virginia rolled to a 3-0 win at Pittsburgh on Oct. 4, 2014, in the teams’ last meeting at Ambrose Urbanic Field. UVA dominated the possession battle and scored a season-high three goals while the defense recorded its fourth clean sheet. Todd Wharton, Darius Madison and Nicko Corriveau each scored for the Cavaliers, while Scott Thomsen recorded a pair of assists.

Virginia recorded a season-high 19 shots, outshooting Pitt 19-5, including a 12-2 margin in the second half. After coming close on several opportunities in the first half, UVA struck paydirt in the 44th minute as Wharton cranked a left-footed blast from just outside the top of the box.

Youth is Served
While Virginia is led by senior stalwarts Todd Wharton and Scott Thomsen, over half of the Cavaliers’ minutes have come from underclassmen. UVA’s freshmen and sophomores account for nearly 65 percent of the Cavaliers’ minutes this year.

Virginia No. 21 in Latest RPI
Virginia remained at No. 21 in the NCAA’s latest RPI, which was released Monday. American stands at No. 80. The Cavaliers’ remaining matches of the regular season are against Pitt (75), Virginia Tech (45) and North Carolina (2).

Noting Pittsburgh
Pitt stands 5-5-3 on the season, including an 0-4-1 mark in ACC play. The Panthers fell, 1-0, Tuesday at home to Cleveland State. Pitt out-shot Cleveland State, 12-6, in the match. The Panthers played Virginia Tech to a scoreless draw last Friday. Patrick Dixon, Tobias Heyman, Raj Kahlon and Kevin Murray each have scored two goals.
