DURHAM, N.C. – Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) picked up a win over LSU’s Skylar Kuykendall in singles competition as the Virginia women’s tennis team completed play on day one at the Kitty Harrison Fall Invitational hosted by North Carolina on Friday.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday morning, taking the court against players from North Carolina and Middle Tennessee at 9 a.m. before facing Maryland in singles competition at 1 p.m.

In doubles play against Duke to begin Friday’s competition, the pairing of Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) and Victoria Olivarez (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up an 8-5 win. The pairings of Morton and Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Me.) and the pairing of Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and Erica Susi (Vero Beach, Fla.) both dropped their matches.

The Cavaliers then faced off against LSU in both singles and doubles. All three Virginia doubles teams dropped their matches, while Morton picked up the only win of the afternoon in singles when she defeated LSU’s Kuykendall in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Virginia was competing without seniors Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) who will return to action next weekend in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
