PENSACOLA, Fla. – Virginia men’s tennis players Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) advanced through the qualifying singles tournament and earned a spot in the main draw of the $10,000 Pensacola Futures Tournament, being held Nov. 17-22 in Pensacola, Fla.

Wiersholm and redshirt junior Harrison Richmond (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) competed in the 128-player qualifying tournament this weekend (Nov. 13-16), vying for one of the eight slots into the main draw.

In the opening round, Wiersholm advanced with a 6-0, 2-0 (ret.) win over Robert Guerrero, going on to down Brant Vaughn Switzler, 6-1, 6-4, to move into the third round. On Sunday, Wiersholm logged a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Patrick Daciek to move into a qualifying final where he defeated Jarred Wynan 6-1, 6-4 to earn a spot in the main draw.

Richmond defeated Hunter Lathrop, 6-0, 6-2 on Friday but fell 6-3, 6-2 to Mitchell Stewart in Saturday’s round-of-64 matches.
