Virginia Extends Streak in NCAA Soccer Championship
Virginia is playing in its 35th-consecutive NCAA tournament, dating to 1981 — the longest active streak in Division I men’s soccer.

Virginia has an all-time record of 60-29-5 in the NCAA tournament, including a 45-18-2 mark in home matches. UVA has won its last five home NCAA tournament matches, with its last loss coming in 2011, a 1-0 double-overtime setback to Delaware.

UVA has hosted at least one game in each of the 35 years during the current streak.

Cavaliers vs. Rider, MAAC
Virginia and Rider have met just once previously, a 3-0 UVA win on Nov. 22, 1998, in a first-round NCAA tournament match at Klöckner Stadium. UVA is 4-0-2 against current members of the MAAC (0-0-1 vs. Fairfield, 1-0 vs. Manhattan, 1-0 vs. Marist, 0-0-1 vs. Monmouth, 1-0 vs. Rider, 1-0 vs. Saint Peter’s, 0-0 vs. Canisius, Iona, Niagara, Quinnipiac and Siena).

UVA last played a MAAC squad in the NCAA tournament in 2007, a 3-1 defeat of Saint Peter’s, and is 3-0 against current MAAC programs at NCAAs.

Cavaliers vs. NCAA Field
Virginia played six matches against teams in the 2015 NCAA Tournament field (Boston College, Charlotte, North Carolina, Notre Dame (two times) and Tulsa). UVA sported a 1-3-2 mark against those sides.

Gelnovatch Continues NCAA-Record Streak
In his 20th year as UVA’s head coach, George Gelnovatch has not missed the NCAA tournament in any season during his tenure. Gelnovatch is the first head coach in Division I men’s soccer history to reach 20 straight NCAA tournaments. In UVA’s streak of 35 straight NCAA tournament berths, Gelnovatch has been a part of 31: 20 as head coach, seven as an assistant coach under Bruce Arena and four as a player.

Noting Rider
Rider earned an automatic bid and its third NCAA berth in program history after winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament championship, ousting top-seeded Monmouth, 3-2, in the final. The Broncs boast a high-powered offense, with four players scoring six goals or more and the team totaling 42 scores on the year (11th most nationally). Christian Flath and Elliott Otmani each have scored eight goals. Rider is 9-1-1 since the start of October and owns a 9-2 record away from home in 2015.

Virginia Extends Streak of Winning Seasons
Virginia has clinched its 35th straight winning season, the longest current streak in Division I men’s soccer. It also is tied for the fifth-longest streak of winning seasons in NCAA history. UVA has won seven national championships during that span.
