DiCamillo Leads Cavaliers At Cliff Keen Invite
Dec. 4, 2015
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior George DiCamillo (Highland Heights, Ohio) advanced to the semifinals of the Cliff Keen Invitational to lead No. 19 Virginia in action on day one at the event at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas on Friday (Dec. 4). Competition in the event continues at 12 p.m. ET Saturday (Dec. 5).
The Cavaliers are in 11th-place after the first day of action with 46 points.
DiCamillo, the six-seed in his bracket, claimed three straight matches with wins over wrestlers from Oregon State and Missouri before a medical forfeiture by Johnni DiJulius of Ohio State sent the Cavalier senior into Saturday’s semifinals at 133 pounds.
Ranked ninth nationally in his weight class, DiCamillo posted an 8-6 decision over Oregon State’s Joey Palmer before recording a 12-4 major decision over Zach Synon of Missouri to advance to the quarterfinals. The medical forfeiture by DiJulius moved DiCamillo on to the semifinals of the event.
Seven wrestlers advanced into the night session for the Cavaliers with Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.), Zach Nye (Enola, Pa.) and Patrick Gillen (Shelton, Conn.) all advancing to Saturday action in the consolation bracket after the Friday evening session.
