LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Two members of the No. 19 Virginia wrestling team placed in their weight class at the Cliff Keen Invitational on Saturday with George DiCamillo (Highland Heights, Ohio) finishing third and Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.) taking fourth in their respective weight classes.

Virginia finished 11th out of 39 teams in the event that featured almost half of the top 25.

DiCamillo took third place at 133 pounds in the event, rallying after falling in the semifinals to Nahshon Garrett of Cornell. Garrett would go on to win the weight class with an upset victory over defending 133-pound NCAA champion Cody Brewer of Oklahoma.

After dropping the 11-5 decision to Garrett in the semifinals, DiCamillo battled back with a decision over Daniel DeShazer of Nebraska-Kearney and then notched a dominant win with a 13-3 major decision over Earl Hall of Iowa State.

Atkinson finished in fourth place at 157 pounds, falling to West Virginia’s Dylan Cottrell 5-3 on a late reversal and a takedown in the third period. Atkinson picked up three straight wins to reach the third-place bout. He defeated Cornell’s Christopher Dowdy with an 8-2 decision before defeating Columbia’s Markus Scheidel with a 6-0 decision. Atkinson then recorded a 12-0 major decision over Bryce Steiert of Northern Iowa before facing Cottrell.

Zach Nye (Enola, Pa.) and Patrick Gillen (Shelton, Conn.) both dropped their first matches of the day to end their competition at the Cliff Keen Invitational.
