Tonight’s #UVAMBB hoops showdown in Blacksburg is a Commonwealth Clash game. What is the Commonwealth Clash? It is “the” college rivalry in the commonwealth of Virginia and it dates back more than a century to when the Hoos and the Hokies first faced off in an 1895 football game in Charlottesville. In honor of the rivalry, which grew in scope and intensity after VT joined the ACC in 2004, the Commonwealth Clash, sponsored by Virginia529, was developed as a points-based contest that encompasses various sports from each school. UVA won last year’s clash 15-7 and leads this year 3.5-1.5. Click here to read more about the Clash.
