Virginia Picks Up Two ACC Weekly Awards

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–Virginia swimming and diving seniors Courtney Bartholomew and Carl Buergler have been honored with ACC weekly awards, the conference announced Tuesday (Jan. 12).
Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) was named ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while Buergler (Arlington, Va.) was tabbed ACC Men’s Diver of the Week. Both pick up weekly honors for their performances against Notre Dame Jan. 8-9 in the final home meet of their careers.
Bartholomew led the No. 1 Cavaliers to a 243-105 win over the Fighting Irish. She won three individual events, including the 100 back in 53.07, the 200 back in 1:55.21 and the 200 IM in 1:59.35. Her 200 free relay team finished with an Aquatic and Fitness Center pool-record time of 1:31.15. She also was a part of three additional first-place relays, including the 400 free relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay.
Buergler took home weekly honors after posting two first-place finishes to help No. 21 Virginia defeat visiting Notre Dame 182.5-170.5. He won the 1-meter event with a score of 324.45 before posting a season-best score of 376.65 in the 3-meter event. Both scores were NCAA zone-qualifying marks.
It is Bartholomew’s sixth weekly honor of her career and first of the season, while it is Buergler’s first weekly honor of his career.
