CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s lacrosse team was picked to finish in a tie for fifth in the ACC Preseason Poll voted on by the league coaches.

Earlier this week, Virginia was picked 10th in both national polls. The ACC took the top four spots in the IWLCA Coach’s poll, with the Cavaliers just behind Boston College with 239 votes, and UVA received 210 votes in the media poll to be one of six ACC teams in the top 10.

The Cavaliers return six starters from last season, including ACC Freshman of the Year goalkeeper Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.) along with senior Kelly Boyd (Baltimore, Md.), who scored 35 goals last season. UVA also brought in 10 freshmen that will compete for playing time after losing six starters to graduation last May.

No. 10 Virginia will open the 2016 season on Saturday, Feb. 13 against No. 5 Northwestern in a neutral-site game in Kennesaw, Ga. The Cavaliers will host their home opener on Feb. 24 against in-state foe Richmond at 5 p.m. at Klöockner Stadium.
