CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia (4-3, 1-0 ACC) women’s tennis team jumps back into ACC competition on Sunday (Feb. 20) when the Cavaliers travel to face No. 62 Syracuse at 11 a.m.
The Cavaliers are coming off an appearance at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships two weekends ago and have not played since as inclement weather postponed a showdown with No. 18 Alabama earlier this week.
Syracuse (6-0) will play a pair of ACC matches this weekend, facing No. 43 Boston College on Saturday before taking on the Cavaliers on Sunday. It’s the first conference match of the season for the Orange, while Virginia defeated Boston College 4-3 to open the spring season in January.
Virginia enters the match led by a trio of seniors serving as captains, all three of whom are ranked in the national rankings.
Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) leads the way for the Cavaliers and is ranked No. 2 nationally in singles in the latest ITA Rankings. Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), who is ranked No. 15 in singles, and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), who is ranked no. 63 in singles, also serve as captains for the Cavaliers and played the top three spots in the lineup at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Virginia also puts a nationally-ranked doubles team on the court with Collins pairing with freshman Meghan Kelley. The duo is ranked No. 13 in doubles.
